By tradition, both Wai Kru Ram Muay ritual as well as the actual Muay Thai contest itself are followed to the accompaniment of traditional rhythmic music performed by four musicians. The instruments used are pee chawaa (Javanese oboe), glong kaek (a pair of Thai drums played by two musicians) and ching (small Thai cymbals).
Nowadays, especially outside of Thailand, the music is commonly played from the disk or tape.
